Plan commission approves exterior renovation for 133 East Ogden administration building, selects brick option

The Hinsdale Plan Commission on May 14 approved exterior appearance and site-plan changes for the school district administration building at 133 East Ogden Avenue and selected the red brick option (Option 1) for the building exterior.
Scott (project representative) told the commission the applicant added about 443 square feet of planting islands and that the application now shows reduced lot coverage; the representative cited figures of 85.2%, 83.9% and a reduced figure of 82.4% during his presentation. "We have gone through and we've added about 443 additional square feet," Scott said, describing the changes that reduced impervious coverage and added planting islands in the parking lot.
The applicant also added plantings to screen a Nicor gas meter and confirmed parking-area lighting will be dimmable. The proposed work includes replacing windows with black-framed units, removing shutters and retaining existing stone trim; the district expressed a preference for preserving the building's traditional red-brick appearance to save on maintenance costs.
Commissioners praised the parking-lot adjustments and additional landscaping, and raised practical concerns about snow removal and where plowed snow might be stored. Mike Doody, representing the district, said the district contracts snow removal and has provisions in place; he told the commission the district has handled snow removal at the site over the past year.
Commissioner Fiosconi moved to approve Case A-49-2024 as submitted with selection of Option 1 (red brick); Commissioner Moore seconded. The commission voted by roll call with all present voting aye (Commissioners Curry, Kirillenberger, Cernovich, Willoughby, Fiosconi, Pia Stoney, Moore and Chairman Cashman). The approval covers the exterior appearance and site plan as presented; signage changes will be processed separately.
Commissioners asked the applicant to prioritize the building front and entrance in the final design and to verify long-term brick-matching and maintenance plans if painted brick is used in any later option. The commission granted approval for the current application, and the district may return later with separate signage requests.
