The applicant's agent, Lino Carrillo of Express Signs and Lighting, told the commission the signage work is part of a broader rebranding after Illinois Bone and Joint acquired Hinsdale Orthopedics. "We're taking down a lot of the Hinsdale Orthopedic signage," Carrillo said, describing the request as face changes to two ground signs, one wall sign and a permanent window sign; no sign sizes will change.
Commissioners discussed visibility and uniformity. Several commissioners urged matching treatments on both sides of the property so drivers can more easily read the signs; one member noted a preference for white faces to maintain nighttime legibility because the proposed signs are not illuminated. Commissioners also heard that the building is planned for redevelopment as a larger surgical center, with burial of parking under the new structure, which partly influenced the applicant's decision not to request illuminated ground signs.
Commissioner Willoughby moved to approve Case A-20-2025 with a recommendation that the applicant use a white face with green lettering for the ground signs; Commissioner Cernovich seconded. The commission voted by roll call with all members present voting aye (Commissioners Curry, Kirillenberger, Cernovich, Willoughby, Fiosconi, Moore and Chairman Cashman). The permit approval authorizes the sign-face replacements and the window and wall sign changes as submitted.
The applicant said the window signage and one wall sign removal were already in place and provided those examples in the packet. Commission members suggested the applicant consider matching both ground sign faces while noting the applicant's broader redevelopment plans could change signage needs.
The commission's action permits the face replacements; the applicant may return with larger future requests tied to redevelopment plans.
