Chair Lyon noted the county posted a copy of a letter from the congressional delegation to the White House advocating for AmeriCorps and said the county had also received supporting letters from towns including Brewster. "That letter has been posted to the county website," the chair said during the meeting.
Commissioners and staff said they have received calls and messages from community members about the program and are monitoring federal budget developments. County staff reported they have made arrangements "to continue the program until the end of the program year" and that the county will reassess only if there are material legal or funding changes.
The discussion came amid broader concerns about federal grant terminations: later in the meeting staff said the EPA had notified a regional partner that a multi-year grant would be terminated early, though the grant was due to expire in July and the immediate operational impact was described as limited.
The resolution passed by motion; commissioners also urged continued outreach to the delegation and local towns to demonstrate support for AmeriCorps programming on Cape Cod.
