Independent Black Student Union debuts monthly student paper; plans regular editions

Brother Blanks, representing the National Independent Black Student Union, introduced the board and public to the group’s first student newspaper during the Student Achievement meeting on May 13.
Blanks said the paper is intended to give students a platform to “control your narrative” and included poems by current and former students. He described the edition’s theme with the proverb, “Until the lion tells the story, the hunter will always be the hero,” and told the board the group plans to publish once a month, with a repeat run in June and subsequent editions in July.
Blanks offered copies to the board and community members and said the group will return and, if requested, seek placement on a future agenda for a longer presentation. He noted a technical issue in the first edition with a QR code that they plan to correct in the next issue.
