The Benton County Board of Supervisors voted to approve the county’s claims after county staff reviewed several invoices and answered supervisors’ questions.
Supervisors pressed staff on several line items before the vote: repeated invoices from Virginia Gay Hospital and Advanced Correctional that appeared to include duplicate charges for inmate medical transports and on-site services; an annual IT monitoring fee from Tyler Technologies that provides extra security monitoring; long-format invoicing from Amazon Capital Services for direct departmental invoicing; and hardware purchases from CDW Government Inc.
Staff explained that some high-dollar medical charges represented multiple monthly invoices combined in a single payment cycle and that the county had recently renewed its contract for on-site medical services. The Tyler Technologies charge was described as an annual monitoring service that flags suspicious activity and alerts county staff. Amazon Capital Services invoices reflect direct invoicing for a business account; access to that account is limited to a few county employees.
Supervisors raised an apparent duplicate hospital charge of $10,136 and asked staff to verify invoice numbers and dates; staff reported the two $10,136 entries had different invoice numbers and likely covered different months. After discussion, the board approved the claims by recorded voice vote (Tippett, aye; Seaman, aye; Bowles, aye).
The board also discussed debt-service payments related to a radio tower and indicated these would be covered through ARPA funds or the applicable county fund where previously allocated.
