Lampasas earns Travel Texas tourism‑friendly designation; council approves chamber reimbursement

Madeline Phillips and a Travel Texas team told the council Lampasas was one of the inaugural 40 communities to complete the state’s certification process. Phillips said the designation recognizes communities that have organized visitor infrastructure, partnerships and marketing capacity; she gave 2023 figures showing nearly $13.8 million in direct visitor spending in Lampasas and more than $400,000 in local tax revenue attributable to travel spending.
Chamber director Melissa Unger presented the biannual report covering membership, event support, visitor‑center activity and web analytics. Unger said the chamber’s operational expenses are typically 40% city‑funded for the visitor center and asked council to authorize reimbursement for the first two quarters. Council voted to accept the biannual report and authorized reimbursement of $30,310.30.
Mayor Herb Pierce read a proclamation celebrating the Travel Texas designation and the council posed for photos with Travel Texas and chamber staff. Travel Texas staff also reviewed free and discounted resources available to communities — cooperative advertising funds, visitation data, and connections to agencies such as TxDOT, Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Texas Historical Commission — and encouraged Lampasas to use state resources to expand tourism initiatives.
