Farragut approves first reading of ordinance letting town administrator appoint municipal court clerk

Allison, the town recorder, explained the change to the board, saying the current position is appointed by resolution and that ‘‘after researching how other municipalities fill this role, the amendment is for the ordinance to authorize a town administrator to appoint the employee as municipal court clerk. This amendment will help streamline the appointment process and allow for current job functions to align with the duties of the clerk.’’
The board provided no further comment on the ordinance during the meeting. The roll call vote recorded Alderman Burnette, Alderman White, Vice Mayor Meyer and Mayor Ron Williams voting yes; the motion passed 4‑0 on first reading. The ordinance will follow the town's adopted ordinance process for second reading and final adoption.
The change does not itself name an individual appointee; staff indicated the amendment aligns appointment authority with the administrator's operational responsibilities.
