Superintendent Kendra Blevins addressed the board with logistics for commencement and a curricular action on the consent agenda, noting the district is changing preschool materials to meet state requirements.
"Graduation is scheduled right now for Tuesday, May 13. The ceremony will begin at 07:30," Blevins said, adding that doors will open at 05:45 and that the district will announce by the end of the day on Monday, May 12, if weather forces a pivot to Wednesday, May 14, at the same time and location.
Blevins told trustees that the Ohio Department of Education has updated its required list for approved preschool curricula and the district has a consent-agenda item to adopt a new curriculum aligned with the science of reading. She said approving the curriculum at this meeting allows teachers to train over the summer: "we are now required to change our preschool curriculum to make sure it's off of the approved list."
The board approved the consent agenda by roll call (Doctor Kopas, President Matthews, Mister Sprague and Mister Davidson voted yes). The superintendent said the approval will let staff use the summer to "wrestle and wrangle and make that curriculum their own" in preparation for the coming school year.
The board later voted to adjourn into executive session; administration noted that no further board action was anticipated after the executive session.
Discussion vs. decision: The graduation schedule and weather contingency were informational; the preschool curriculum adoption was part of the consent agenda and was approved by the board's consent vote.
