The Salem City Council approved temporary street closures for the Salem Arts Festival and granted multiple neighborhood block-party permits on May 8, 2025.
Councilor Watson Feld moved to approve the Salem Arts Festival closures of Front Street and adjacent blocks for June 7-8, 2025. Kylie Sullivan of Salem Main Street told the council organizers had communicated with businesses and residents, would keep the same footprint as prior years, and would work with the trolley operator to accommodate a scheduled wedding. Councilors praised the festival's management and approved the closure by voice vote.
The council also approved a Levitt Street block party request for June 14 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., moved by Councilor Cohen and co-sponsored by Councilor Gerson; Councilor Cohen said the CDC would help manage barriers and notify residents. Councilor Joseph moved to grant a Bentley Street block party on June 28 with a rain date of June 29; the council approved that request as well.
Councilors noted organizers will notify residents and canvass parking areas to reduce disruption. No special fees or budgetary actions were associated with these approvals.
