Harris County education board hears public concerns about Hopewell Church Road school site, busing and infrastructure

At a special meeting, the Harris County Board of Education discussed the district’s future property outlook, including the possible use of district-owned land on Hopewell Church Road as a site for a new elementary school. Dr. Phoenix opened the discussion by telling the board, “As you know, in Harris county, we are growing and we are developing,” and said the district has been working with facilities consultants at the state DOE to time and plan any new construction.

The discussion drew multiple public speakers and developers. Resident Mr. Marlo told the board he had asked for meetings to raise concerns about Hopewell Church Road and about whether alternative sites or land swaps had been explored. He said the Hopewell parcel was purchased previously as a second high‑school site and argued that it is a poor long‑term location for an elementary school because future housing growth is concentrated elsewhere in the county.
