The City Council approved rezoning of property at 800 Gilmer Road on May 8 to allow Gregg County to relocate its Precinct 2 offices and build an addition.
City planner Miss Choi told the council the request, filed as application Z25-13, would change the site from a planned development zoning district to a general retail zoning district and that Planning and Zoning Commission and staff recommend approval. "Staff is requesting to rezone this property to general retail since there is retail to the north and to the west of this property," Choi said.
The council opened and closed a public hearing and then moved, seconded and approved the rezoning by voice vote; the record shows an "aye" outcome with no opposition noted. There were no speaker cards and no public testimony recorded against the rezone at the meeting.
The rezoning was described as necessary because the property was zoned planned development and Gregg County, which has purchased the property, plans to construct an addition to accommodate Precinct 2 offices. The council did not attach additional conditions during the approval recorded in the meeting minutes.
