Gypsy Hill pool house damage forces temporary changes for 2025 season; new pool house design to go to bid May 19

Parks Director Chris Tuttle told council on May 8 that an annual inspection of the Gypsy Hill Park pool house revealed significant deterioration in the rear stairway, the adjacent patio and the women’s restroom area. As a safety precaution, staff will close the rear stairs and that portion of the patio and will not use the existing women’s restroom for the 2025 season.
To maintain service, Tuttle said staff will repurpose the men’s restroom as a women’s facility (moving some changing stalls into it), use the pool’s handicap ramp for deck access and provide temporary restroom infrastructure. Options under consideration include renting an ADA‑accessible multi‑restroom trailer (previously quoted at about $16,500 but current rental market quoted in one search at $35,000–$50,000) or renting upgraded “wedding” portable restroom units (approximate season cost reported at $14,000). Staff also ordered hand‑washing stations and an outdoor rinse shower to mount on the deck. Public Works will supply utilities and pump units three times weekly if a portable option is used.
Tuttle said the new pool house design is complete and will go to bid on May 19; staff hope construction bids will align with budget expectations. He estimated the combined short‑term rental and temporary equipment cost would be about $14,000 if the wedding‑style portable toilets and handwashing/shower stations are used. Council members and staff praised parks and public works for quick coordination to open the pool on schedule (season opens May 24).
