On May 8 the Montgomery County Board of Education unanimously adopted a resolution directing the superintendent to conduct a countywide evaluation of the district’s CEO program and to solicit input from students, staff, parents and community members from each region of the county.
The resolution, introduced by Board Member Brenda Wolf and seconded by other trustees, asks the superintendent to answer three guiding questions for each region: how well the CEO program is working, what challenges exist, and what opportunities for improvement are present. It specifies that the evaluation plan must be fact‑ and evidence‑based and that the superintendent report back to the board by November 2025.
In public comments earlier in the meeting several speakers urged the board to reassess the presence of uniformed or armed officers in schools, and called for greater use of restorative practices and mental‑health supports. Board members said the evaluation should not be limited to any narrow set of questions and that community testimony raised broader matters about school safety and equity.
The vote was unanimous among members present; the board’s adopted resolution directs staff to design an engagement process and evaluation plan that includes regional public input and evidence‑based analysis. The resolution does not itself change operational practice; it directs an evaluation and public engagement process that will inform any future policy changes.
