The Bexley Architectural Review Board on May 8 tabled application ARB25-21, a proposal to add a carport at 800 South Cassingham, after members said the submitted drawings were not accurate enough to approve.
Board members said the project’s geometry and missing construction details prevented a full review. Chairman Scott and members pressed the applicant on how the new roof would tie into the existing eave return and whether the lean-to roof pitch would sit above the existing garage roof. Member Hall said the lean-to “feels a little out of place” and suggested considering an alternate roof form such as a gable. Member Jones and the residential design consultant also said they wanted more detailed column drawings and clearer elevations.
Applicant Sean McNeil told the board the lot is large and the carport would “utilize what’s there,” and that he planned to “match the vinyl siding, matching the roofing, matching the color scheme.” He confirmed he had discussed eave details with the design consultant and said he had planned “standard 4 by 4 columns” but would consider matching the front porch columns if the board preferred.
Design staff recommended two options: approve with conditions requiring the applicant to work with staff on details, or table so the applicant can return with more thorough drawings. After discussion, the board voted to table the application so the applicant could provide corrected elevations, accurate geometry, and detailed column and connection drawings. The motion to table was moved by Mister Hyer, seconded by Miss Jones and approved by roll call; ARB25-21 was tabled to the ARB’s June 12 meeting.
The board asked the applicant to coordinate with the residential design consultant and to provide accurately measured drawings showing existing conditions, roof pitches, elevations and column details when the case returns.
