District staff and trustees described recent student events that emphasized wellness and the arts, highlighting community partnerships, student participation and hands-on learning experiences.
A staff presenter summarized the second annual Race to Wellness, a district wellness committee event that introduced students to topics including mental health, physical health, nutrition and mindfulness. The presenter said the event included partners such as the Dairy Council, Grossmont College nursing students, the TDS Garden Club and Live Well County, and that school nurses and district kitchen staff supported activities and demonstrations.
A district slideshow shown to the board documented the wellness activities: student running activities, fresh-vegetable displays prepared by the district kitchen, garden-club samples and interactive booths. Staff noted that nursing students from local colleges supported campus activities and that the event was intended to increase students’ agency over their health choices.
Board members and staff also described the Festival of the Arts, where student artwork from across district schools was displayed and visiting students viewed peer work. The board play-by-play included student comments emphasizing creativity and the gallery experience.
Ending: Both events were presented as successful community-engagement opportunities; no board action was required or taken during the meeting.
