Auburn recognizes employee and teacher awardees, announces park authority vacancy and community events

The council also recognized McCarthy Autry and Nick Bowman for five years of service; Anne Bergman, Quentin Byrd and Dennis Harris for 10 years; and Milton Hicks for 20 years of service. In the consent portion of the agenda, the council recognized Auburn City Schools Teachers of the Year for each school in the district—s 14 schools and named Joshua Wine of Auburn Junior High School as secondary teacher of the year and Allison Etheridge of Drake Middle School as elementary teacher of the year, Anders said.
Anders announced a board vacancy for the Indian Pines Public Park Authority. The opening is for a four-year term beginning in June; the term runs through June 20, 2029, and the council will make the appointment at its June 3 meeting. Anders encouraged interested residents to submit an application and notify their council member if they are interested in serving on the body that governs the municipal golf course at Pines Crossing.
The mayor also praised city staff for City Fest and thanked volunteers who replanted hanging baskets downtown. He noted community events including a neighborhood job fair at True Deliverance Holiness Church (in May from 1 to 5 p.m., per the mayor—s remarks), an Auburn Community Theater production of Steel Magnolias, the National Day of Prayer observances, and a forthcoming Mayor—s Memorial Day breakfast for which tickets are available from City Hall. Anders closed by noting Mother—s Day would occur the following Sunday and offering thanks to mothers across the city.
