Oceanside board approves tenure for 23 educators

Names read during the meeting included Ashley Appel (elementary teacher, School 3); Juliana Baloglu (English teacher, Oceanside High School); Michael Bosch (math teacher, Castleton High School); Michael Challis (science teacher, School 9M); Sheila Cruz (business education, OHS); Brandon Cross (mathematics and computer science, OHS and middle school); Shauna Dolan Spruill (special education, School 8); Connor Dorner (school counselor, OMS); Dakota Edgenis (physical education, OMS); Luke Gackstader (dean of students, OHS); Bridal Gilbert (physical education teacher, OHS); Connor Janane (elementary teacher, School 9E); Laura Moriarty (special education, School 4); Thomas Pilato (special education, OHS); Teresa Petr Monaco (orchestra teacher, OMS); Vincent Simonetti (science teacher, OHS); Robin Whitletter (elementary teacher, Early Learning Center); Robin Price (director of early childhood special education); Tracy Murray (executive director of special education); Saudia Mohammed (director of high school special education); Thomas Lehman (director of physical education, health and interscholastic athletics); Jackie Graham (elementary principal, School 4); and Andrew Frey Gould (director of media, fine and performing arts).
Board members publicly congratulated the recipients and the motion to grant tenure was moved and seconded before the board voted in favor. A board member reminded recipients of the “big responsibility” of educating the district’s children as part of remarks before the vote.
The district said the tenure recommendations reflect each educator’s professional portfolio and years of service; the board’s approval grants the tenure status effective under district policy. The board did not discuss individual personnel files in public.
