Milford City Manager Gunderson told City Council on May 8 that a recent water‑line break revealed a corroded sewer line and that crews will replace roughly 360 feet of sewer pipe, requiring road closures for about a week to 10 days.
Gunderson said the work grew in scope after crews dug to assess the sewer and found the pipe so corroded it could not be repaired. The city plans to replace a section of sewer line from manhole to manhole and will replace a portion of the water line at the same time to avoid repeated excavation.
City staff described the repairs as unplanned but urgent. Gunderson said crews have worked long shifts through rain and that police and fire departments have assisted with traffic and safety. He estimated the road could remain closed through the middle to end of next week and said the city will keep business access open during construction.
Council members asked for updates on schedule and access; Gunderson said the city will post progress and apologized for the inconvenience. He emphasized the decision to replace the sewer and portions of the water line was driven by field conditions found during excavation, not by earlier plans.
The city did not provide a final contractor name, an exact work start/end time, or a detailed cost estimate in the meeting discussion; those specifics were described as to be determined and will be shared in subsequent updates.
