The bill would allow federal or state land‑management employees to take beavers only when necessary to address damage or an imminent threat to infrastructure, agricultural crops, or private property adjacent to public lands and only with authorization from the Department of Fish and Wildlife. The bill’s text also states it would not supersede the rights of federally recognized tribes, nor would it interfere with tribal harvest activities or cooperative management agreements.
A committee member asked to delay the vote and pursue an amendment to narrow differences; the chair agreed there was time in the schedule and set a new work‑session date certain. The committee carried over the work session to Tuesday, May 20 (previously discussed May 22), and asked sponsors and stakeholders to continue negotiations before reconvening.
