Committee approves technical fixes to Saint Tammany Economic Development Organization statute

The Senate Committee on Local and Municipal Affairs on Thursday adopted an amendment and reported SB239 favorably. The bill, presented by Sen. McMath, makes technical changes to the statute that governs the Saint Tammany Economic Development Organization, a political subdivision.
Sen. McMath described SB239 as “cleaning up some language” and updating the board’s nominating committee structure to align with industry standards. An amendment (set 13‑81) clarifies titles used in statute — specifying the chair, vice chair, treasurer and president and chief executive officer (instead of the previous “executive director” designation) — and includes the St. Tammany Parish Council in the nominating process for commissioners.
Chris Massengale, CEO of the Saint Tammany Economic Development Corporation, testified in support and explained the changes were meant to simplify administration and better position the organization for business prospects. “This gives us the ability to actually go by the Saint Tammany Economic Development Corporation,” Massengale said.
The committee adopted the amendment and, on a motion from Vice Chair Boudreaux, reported SB239 favorably as amended.
