The Senate Education Committee reported House Bill 109 favorably after senators approved a one-word change to the GoTeach scholarship statute to alter the funding order used by students.
Representative Thompson and Representative Freiberg explained the measure would change a single word from "after" to "before" to make GoTeach a first‑in funding source so it can pay fees, materials and tuition while TOPS can be used for room and board. Freiberg said the GoTeach grant was intended to be a first-resort source for instruction‑related costs and that shifting the order provides funds where students most need them.
Committee members adopted the bill without objection and the chair ordered it reported favorably.
