Tequesta council reappoints advisory members, approves new planning and pension appointees

The Village of Tequesta council on May 8 approved several board and committee appointments, reappointing current members to advisory panels and filling vacancies on the planning and pension boards.
Council reappointed Tom Bradford and Brad Fries to the Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) and left one EAC seat vacant. Council members discussed changing the EAC meeting schedule to 6 p.m. every other month and reducing membership to five “by attrition,” and asked the committee to bring recommendations to a future workshop. Tom Bradford, an EAC member, told the council the committee would consider attendance and meeting-frequency recommendations at its next meeting: “That’ll be something that’s coming down the pipe next week,” he said.
On planning and zoning, the council reappointed Leslie Dasher and Sherry Ambrose to regular seats, confirmed Marissa Perry as alternate 1, moved Jared Gaylord to alternate 2 and appointed Fred Lazauer to alternate 3. Two new applicants — Robert Feeley and Fred Lazauer — addressed the council; Feeley said he wanted to be “a little bit more part of the community” and noted his 30-plus years in construction. Council members said they favored continuity for longtime committee members and noted construction experience can be useful for planning work.
The council reappointed Kyle Stone to the General Employee Pension Board and appointed Matt (Matt) Mulcie to a vacant seat. Mulcie introduced himself as a certified financial planner who returned to the Tequesta area in 2021 and said he hoped his financial-planning experience would be useful: “I’m a certified financial planner… I look at financial matters, and so just be honored to serve in this opportunity,” he said. During discussion, council noted the village ordinance requires board members be Village of Tequesta residents but that past legal guidance allowed an out-of-village appointment when necessary to keep a pension board functional; council asked staff to clarify the residency policy going forward.
Finally, the council reappointed David Hudson and Christopher Cowles to the Public Safety Pension Board by resolution.
All motions to approve the appointments passed on voice votes with affirmative responses from present council members.
