The Woburn City finance committee voted to appropriate $150,000 from the traffic safety and infrastructure account for design and eventual construction of a traffic signal at Presidential Way and New Boston Street.
City officials said the transfer is intended to advance ongoing mitigation work tied to the bridge area. “Pretty straightforward transfer request…this is the transfer to advance that along in terms of design and then eventually construction,” said the mayor, who presented the request and said he was joined by City Auditor Dougherty and City Engineer Alex Wazicki.
The appropriation was described as part of previously collected mitigation funds; Committee members asked confirmatory questions about the intended use. Councilor Sproen noted the money came from the mitigation account and that it should be used for traffic-related items. The committee moved the order forward and voted “Aye;” the motion carried.
The committee did not set a construction timetable during the discussion. Officials said the transfer will fund further design work and help the project move toward construction, but no specific dates for design completion or for when construction would begin were given.
The committee approved the transfer by voice vote and sent the order out "ought to pass."
