CORA opens satellite service at Coastside Hope to provide on-site domestic‑violence advocacy

CORA, the county domestic‑violence provider, told the Half Moon Bay City Council on May 6 that it has established a satellite office co‑located at Coastside Hope to expand in‑person access to domestic‑violence advocacy and related services on the Coastside.
Karen Ferguson, identified in the presentation as CORA’s CEO, and Robin Jensen, CORA’s manager for prevention and community engagement, presented the services the organization will provide at the Coastside Hope office, including an on‑site navigator for part of the week, walk‑in advocacy, hotline connections, referrals to CORA legal services and housing assistance (including rental assistance), mental‑health referrals and community programs for youth and businesses. “All of our services are free to the community. All of our services have high levels of confidentiality,” Ferguson said.
Presenters highlighted several specific programs already operating on the coast: a youth engagement and advocacy program at local high schools; a business‑oriented “Speak Up” 15‑minute presentation to help staff recognize domestic‑violence signs and provide a QR code to display; and a “To Do at Home” program for families with children ages 0–5, operated in partnership with the San Mateo County libraries. The Coastside satellite’s posted hours are Wednesdays 1–5 p.m. and Thursdays and Fridays 9 a.m.–5 p.m.; flyers were made available at the meeting.
Council members and attendees welcomed the additional local access. CORA and Coastside Hope said the co‑location aims to reduce barriers for victims who cannot travel to the main CORA offices in San Mateo and to provide immediate, confidential in‑person assistance in addition to the hotline.
No city action was required; the presentation served to brief council and the public on the new local service option and hours.
