Committee updates status of recovery-port build-out; $632,000 identified for project pending budget recommendation

An architectural estimate for a project of the described size was given in the meeting as roughly $100,000 to $110,000; staff said they may be able to secure a discount and that they currently expect to construct about 75% of the originally discussed footprint depending on final bids.
Staff scheduled a June 4 walkthrough of the proposed space with Judge Hunter and a sheriff’s-office representative to draft a request for proposals that will include stipulations limiting scope if bids exceed the available budget. Staff emphasized that project spending cannot exceed the appropriation and that any RFP would include options to remove sections if necessary.
No formal vote on the build-out was taken at the May 8 meeting; staff said the project remains contingent on the county budget recommendation and subsequent commission approval.
