Peoria County board approves north-side courthouse façade change order; other items remain under review

Peoria County commissioners on May 13 approved a change order tied to ongoing exterior repairs to the courthouse, but committee discussion and board comments show the county will continue negotiating portions of the contract that refer to the older sections of the building.
The infrastructure committee reported a 4–3 split when considering a larger change order; the committee recommended moving forward with the portion tied to the Main Street (newer) side of the building, an item staff said amounted to approximately $64,250. Member Ruland explained the north/Main Street portion "is intact and moving forward" and that the balance of the requested change order would be the subject of further negotiation.
Committee members and staff said they expect quick discussion and resolution of the remaining items so the overall exterior repairs can stay on schedule. Staff noted the county’s new assistant administrator for facilities will be actively involved to hold contractors accountable and to negotiate outstanding scope and pricing.
The full board voted to approve the recommended change order portion; the roll call recorded unanimous approval for the action recommended out of committee. Staff said they will return if additional negotiation requires further board action.
