Council approves Water Pollution Control Fund budget and recommends $485 sewer charge

Budget chair Jim Jenks presented the appropriation and the council seconded the motion; the item passed without opposition. Councilors and staff said the larger-than-typical per‑customer increase being recommended is intended to avoid drawing down fund balance and to ensure the wastewater plant and collection system are adequately maintained. “The plant is one of the more important assets we have in town,” a councilor said during discussion.
