New Danville CCSD 118 board sworn in; Halloran elected president

The Danville School District 118 Board of Education accepted the official canvass of the April 1, 2025 consolidated election, administered oaths to four newly elected members and elected officers to two‑year terms at a public meeting on May 21, 2025.
The board voted to accept the Vermilion County clerk’s canvass of the election results and then welcomed the newly elected trustees: Christopher Easton, Darlene Halloran, Dr. Thomas Halloran and Tony Towne. Circuit Judge Charles Hall administered the oath of office to the four members at the meeting.
Judge Hall told the new trustees, “Serving as a member of the school board is participating in probably the purest form of democracy we have in this country.” The judge read a longer oath emphasizing duties to taxpayers, respect for privacy, adherence to majority votes and fostering community participation in setting district goals.
After the swearing-in, the board elected officers. The board voted 6–0 to elect Darlene Halloran president of the board of education; Kim Corley was elected vice president, and Lakisha Robinson was elected secretary, each to serve two‑year terms through April 2027. The board also voted 6–0 to retain Wednesday as its regular meeting day. Roll-call votes were recorded and announced during the meeting.
Superintendent Pete (Pete) Hart and board secretary Lakisha Robinson noted that newly seated trustees must complete mandated‑reporter training; Robinson said the training details will be provided to all members. The actions at the meeting were procedural and organizational: accepting the election canvass, swearing in members and electing officers. No policy changes or personnel hires were voted at the same time as the organizational items.
Looking ahead, board members and district staff signaled a focus on transparency, training and restarting district priorities after the change in membership.
