Committee discusses leadership, budget allocation and possible massing study RFP

The New Canaan Portable House Committee discussed filling leadership posts, use of a recently approved budget allocation, and next steps for a massing study to inform site planning.

One member said they are willing to continue leading on a more permanent basis if an assistant or secretary steps up, and the group agreed to consider a vote on leadership at the next meeting. On funding, a committee member reported that a pre‑requested budget allocation has been approved and that the committee must decide how to spend it; the member described using the funds for a massing study to test different story counts and parking configurations rather than producing detailed architectural drawings.

Members discussed ways to obtain study material. One member said an architect who previously worked on plans for the lumberyard site could "resurrect a basic version of the plan" from a one‑page summary after the original planning documents were lost in a flood. The committee also discussed issuing a request for proposals to find a consultant to perform a massing study; one member offered to draft an RFP for discussion at a future meeting.

No formal votes were taken on leadership or consultant selection; members agreed to take actions and return with proposals at the next meeting.
