Mason High recognizes freshmen, sophomores and juniors at awards ceremony

Mason High School held an awards ceremony (date not specified) in which counselors and administrators read the names of freshmen, sophomores and juniors and presented classroom and recognition awards to the students.

The event, led by counselor Sally Clark, honored students nominated by teachers and staff for classroom achievement and leadership. Clark told the audience, "You have been invited this evening because a teacher or maybe several teachers or staff members nominated you," and explained that nominees were chosen for either subject-specific classroom awards or broader recognitions such as the Comet Excellence Award.

Counselors and administrators read a long roll call of student names; students came forward down the center aisle to receive framed certificates and awards. Clark asked attendees to hold applause until the end of each group so the ceremony could proceed without interruption. Michelle Brinkman assisted with lining students up, and Principal Brown and Dr. Jonathan Cooper, the district superintendent, participated in congratulating students and offering handshakes.

Staff presented a range of awards during the ceremony, including classroom recognitions (for subjects such as honors geometry, chemistry, biology and AP courses), school recognition awards such as the Mason Service Award, Making a Difference Award, Humanitarian Award, Above and Beyond, Inclusive Excellence Award, Peer Leader Award, Integrity Award, Culture Builder Award, Perseverance Award and Change Agent recognition. Organizers also presented the Brown Book Award, noted by staff as an annual gift from Bruce and Amy Guillot (Brown University class of 1990) that honors a junior who combines academic excellence with clarity in written and spoken expression; this year's Brown Book Award went to Ruhi Canaria. An additional book award from the University of Kentucky was presented to Eliana Sharpentier.

The ceremony included guidance for parents and attendees: students were asked to bring the paper placed on their chairs in order to claim awards, and Clark noted the event was being recorded for ICRC so absent family members could view the program. The program concluded with remarks encouraging underclassmen to continue pursuing leadership roles and wishing students well on upcoming exams and the summer period; Clark closed with, "Congratulations to all of you for being leaders in our school."
