City staff presented a proposed budget calendar and asked the council for scheduling feedback as the city prepares required public notices and tentative millage votes.
Finance staff proposed a budget workshop on Wednesday, June 18 at 4 p.m. followed by a 5:30 p.m. council meeting the same day to encourage public participation. The preliminary millage rate meeting is scheduled as the regularly scheduled July 16 meeting at 9 a.m. Staff also proposed tentative and final budget hearings on Sept. 3 and Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m., consistent with Florida statute requirements for budget adoption and TRIM notices.
Council members raised availability concerns for some dates and asked staff to follow up individually; staff said final calendar resolutions will be brought back for formal adoption. Separately, the city manager and lobbyists updated the council on hurricane-recovery funding requests: the city’s requests for roadway improvements on Rosemary Drive and a $5 million beach renourishment ask remain in legislative negotiation, and the status of Florida Forever funding was described as uncertain pending legislative compromise.
Staff also reminded the council that hurricane season begins June 1 and that emergency partners will provide an update in June. No budget appropriations or millage votes were taken at the meeting; council asked staff to advertise the proposed dates and return with formal calendar adoption.
