Family Justice Center requests $200,000 from Hamilton County to fund survivor-facing positions

Regina McDevitt, executive director of the Family Justice Center, asked Hamilton County for $200,000 in support to sustain two positions the center said are central to services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, elder abuse and child abuse.
McDevitt said the center recently celebrated its 10th anniversary and was renamed in honor of Dr. Carol Burse, a former board chair who passed away. The requested funds would support a survivor support specialist who works with law enforcement and the district attorney’s office and leads the center's lethality assessment program, and an education coordinator who provides trauma-informed training across law enforcement and community groups.
McDevitt said the Family Justice Center provided roughly 5,136 services and referrals last year and that it has increased the number of people it serves by about 30% over five years. She said the city provides in-kind space at $1 per year to host several partners in the center, including the district attorney's office, which McDevitt described as critical to co-located services.
McDevitt confirmed the county request is $200,000 and that the amount represents about 13% of the center's $1.5 million annual budget. Commissioners acknowledged the request and compared it with other nonprofit asks during the meeting; no vote occurred during the presentation.
