Board approves personnel actions: labor contract pending attorney review, highway engineer reappointed, search authorized for legal assistant

County staff presented multiple personnel items and the board took action on several.

First, commissioners considered a negotiated labor agreement with ASMI covering 2025 through 2027. Staff told the board the union and county had signed the agreement and the contract was consistent with the tentative agreements reached earlier; the board approved the contract "pending county attorney review," staff said. "This is what the action is pending county attorney review and approval," a staff member stated.

Separately, the board approved Resolution 25-10 to reappoint Brian Polgudinski as the county highway engineer. Staff explained the county is shifting to a practice of formal appointments by resolution rather than by consent agenda.

Finally, the board authorized a competitive search for a 0.8 full-time-equivalent legal assistant position in the county attorney's office. Staff presented case-load numbers to justify the request: year-to-date new case filings for 2025 were reported at 98 new cases, and staff said the county received 316 cases in the 2024 calendar year; commissioners voted to initiate the search.

Each action was taken with standard motions on the record. The ASMI contract approval was explicitly conditioned on the county attorney's final sign-off; the county will return signed documents to the board when the review is complete.
