Student representative highlights spring concerts, service projects and fundraisers at JFK High School

Milton Reyes, student representative from John F. Kennedy Memorial High School, told the Wilbur Center Board of Education on May 8 that district schools marked April with autism-awareness activities, spring concerts for grades 4 and 5, Earth Day planting projects and other extracurricular events.
"Milton Reyes is a very ambitious, well rounded student who exhibits a confidence and maturity not often seen amongst high school students," said Dr. Massimino while introducing Reyes. Reyes told the board that students at School No. 26 participated in the Woodbridge Township Earth Day celebration and received a proclamation from the mayor; the school's green team helped at the event. He said journalism students will publish a follow-up story on bird habitats placed at Ford's Bridal School by volunteers, and that Ford's Memorial High hosted a color run supported by PTO volunteers.
Reyes reported specific student achievements and fundraising totals: a school raised $1,132 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; Oaktree Road School raised $5,165.88 through the Kids Heart Health Challenge for the American Heart Association, with over 20% of students registering online. He also recounted extracurricular highlights at JFK: a three-night run of the musical Mamma Mia starting March 8; induction ceremonies on March 26 (73 new National Honor Society members) and April 29 (61 new National English Honor Society members); an April 30 all-star track meet for students with disabilities; and a March 27 Iftar dinner by the Muslim Student Alliance.
Reyes said he plans to attend Rutgers University in the fall to study criminal justice. The board offered him thanks and invited him to remain for the meeting.
