Peachtree City staff told the May 8 work session that they received five construction bids for the City Hall renovation project and will present a recommendation to council at the next regular meeting.
The project scope includes renovation of the upstairs and downstairs lobbies, elevator installation to meet ADA access, HVAC improvements for IT/server rooms, major electrical upgrades and roof replacement. Staff said the project uses ARPA funds that were transferred into the city’s Capital Improvement Program; the allocated budget is approximately $2.2 million.
City Engineer Dave Borkowski said the low responsive bid is close to the budgeted amount and that final compliance checks are underway: “We received 5 bids for the project. We're currently reviewing those bids deter to determine the lowest responsive bridal, and we should have a recommendation, for the next council meeting on that award.”
Staff outlined a schedule that anticipates 12–18 months for construction because of long lead times on key components (e.g., elevator equipment and electrical switchgear). The plan is to keep City Hall operational through the renovation as much as possible by moving staff temporarily (court staff to be relocated during work days and other accommodations), scheduling noisy work outside court hours and using temporary reception arrangements.
No award was made at the work session; council members asked for confirmation that ADA elements addressed recurrent accessibility issues and staff said the scope covers lobby counters, doors and an elevator, while additional facility ADA items elsewhere in the building will be evaluated and scheduled as needed.
