Mountlake Terrace manager warns of May 20 water stoppage, pool closure and highlights completed playground sidewalks

City Manager Jeff Knighton reported several operational items to the Mountlake Terrace City Council, including a planned temporary water stoppage related to a new housing development, the seasonal closure of the municipal pool for repairs and completion of a sidewalk repair project funded by a Washington Cities Insurance Authority grant.
Knighton said the water stoppage is scheduled for May 20 to allow extension of a water line serving a new housing development of 34 homes; staff are notifying individual homeowners about timing and impacts. When councilmember Murray asked for location and date details, Knighton identified the area as "the intersection of 230 Ninth and 50 Sixth" and confirmed the date as May 20.
On the pool, Knighton said the last day the facility will be open this season is May 16 and that it will be closed from May 17 through June to allow repairs to the pool liner. Knighton also highlighted that work funded by a WCIA (Washington Cities Insurance Authority) grant to repair sidewalks at Evergreen Playfield has been completed and those sidewalks are ready for summer use.
Knighton said staff are coordinating with the public utility district (PUD) to plant additional trees along the Interurban Trail and that the city is working with a community group on its summer family-friendly event; some parts of that event may be canceled, but Knighton said the parade scheduled for July 18 "will absolutely happen." He noted the community group received a hotel-tax award of $19,500 to support the event.
No council action was required for these operational items; staff will continue direct notification to affected homeowners and post scheduling details as needed.
