City Manager Jeff Knighton presented the City Council with a recommended roster of community members to serve on a newly created fiscal sustainability task force, saying the city received 27 applications and selected up to 15 members to serve for a four‑to‑eight month commitment.
The task force is intended to “gain insight from a diverse array of community members,” Jeff Knighton said, and will include homeowners, renters and a range of incomes and generations. “We had 27 applicants, before the deadline,” Knighton said.
The task force will study the city’s fiscal challenges and report back to the council later this year or early next year, Knighton said. Council members asked for access to applicants’ submission materials and recommended adding phonetic pronunciations to the public record so council and the public can correctly say nominees’ names.
Council member Woodard asked to see the application files; Knighton said staff can provide them. Council member Murray thanked applicants and staff and said she appreciated that many nominees have prior service to the city. Council member Paige suggested the record include pronunciation guidance so names are read correctly at public meetings.
Knighton said the first task force meeting is expected in June or July; staff will follow up on scheduling once the roster is finalized. He also said staff will notify the applicants who were not selected after council confirmation and describe the city’s selection criteria.
Council members proposed sending signed thank‑you cards to the applicants who were not chosen. The council did not vote on the appointments during this presentation; staff requested counsel confirmation before outreach and indicated the item will return for finalization as needed.
