Committee member Elsa (last name not recorded) said González — who writes about the Pedro Pan exodus — has agreed to reduce her usual fee to $1,000 for an in‑person appearance and that the committee had raised partial sponsorship commitments: Fred (Sandra) pledged $500 and Amy (owner of Vicky Bakery) offered to donate food for the reception. Elsa said she would provide organizers’ sponsor details and coordinate acknowledgements on the event materials.
Committee members voted to move $500 from Art Basel funds into the book‑talk budget to reach the author fee target and approved the event subject to final invoices and sponsor receipts. Members stressed that invoices are required for vendor payments and that staff should not use vendors without a receipt. The committee approved the author invitation and the Sept. 4 date and asked staff to prepare the Eventbrite page and signage listing sponsors.
"She will be willing to leave it for a thousand dollars," Elsa said of the author’s fee, and committee members said they expected strong turnout given local interest in the book and the author’s ties to Miami Lakes.
