Board approves student travel, WIAA membership and nursing assistant contract
Summary
Trustees approved two WIAA membership resolutions, out-of-state travel for HMS FCCLA students to national competition and an educational-services agreement allowing Prosser students to pursue nursing assistant credentials.
The Prosser School District board approved several items intended to support student extracurricular and career-technical opportunities.
The board approved Resolution 0625 to retain Prosser High School's membership in the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) and Resolution 0725 for Housen Middle School (roll-call votes recorded with board members saying "Aye"). Jackson presented the resolutions, saying membership preserves students' ability to compete for league titles and state championships.
Trustees also approved out-of-state travel for two Housen Middle School FCCLA students, Harper Park and Carly O'Brien, who qualified for national competition in Orlando. The students will fundraise to cover most costs; the district will use Perkins funding and other program funds to cover allowable expenses.
Separately, the board approved an agreement between Prosser High School and Columbia Safety LLC that updates the nursing assistant program arrangement. Columbia Safety will perform site inspections, provide training and certify Prosser's HealthHox students to earn a nursing assistant credential; the district's Career and Technical Education (CTE) program will cover part of the reduced tuition rate negotiated in the agreement.
All items were moved, seconded and approved at the meeting.
