Single bidder wins 2025 pavement project; work includes North Kinney Coulee and maintenance items

The Board of Public Works approved the 2025 pavement project bid May 6 after Matthew Construction was the lone bidder and submitted a total of $223,225.79.
Jared Holter said this year’s work is relatively small — roughly 600 feet on North Kinney Coulee Road plus routine maintenance items such as crack filling and centerline painting. Funding sources include multiple capital project funds, operating accounts and nearly $42,009.87 from local road improvement state funds earmarked for North Kinney.
Holter told the board the bid was about $20,000 under the engineer’s estimate and that while having a single bidder is typical for small paving packages, the bid prices are consistent with past years. Board members acknowledged praise from Wisconsin DOT staff for the city’s pavement‑management program and emphasized the challenge of rising materials costs for chip seal and crack filling work.
Alder Larry Jurasic moved to approve the bid award; Mayor Kim seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
