Board approves change order for cemetery columbarium project; delivery expected in October

Onalaska’s Board approved a $33,007.61 change order for the cemetery columbarium project on May 6 to cover excavation removal and the addition of a sprinkler system.
Jared Holter told the board the contractor work needed more excavation and hauling than anticipated and staff added a sprinkler system in the columbarium area; the change order brings the project total to approximately $359,927 against a capital improvement budget of $380,000.
On schedule questions, Holter said the columbarium units were bid with the project and a shop drawing was approved about six weeks earlier, but the manufacturer’s delivery is expected in October. Staff hopes to begin construction in June, with concrete work in July and the columbarium installed after delivery in October.
Board members asked when sales would begin; Holter said staff plans to finalize a business plan and present it to the Administration & Finance committee in June or July and hopes to begin sales by Aug. 1, with the caveat that there could be a delay between purchase and interment. The motion to approve the change order was made by Mayor Kim, seconded by Sabrina Steger, and carried unanimously.
