Blair County approves three-year natural gas pricing exhibit with Snyder Brothers

The Blair County Board of Commissioners on May 8 approved a term purchase order to add Exhibit A to the county’s natural gas contract with Snyder Brothers, locking a maximum basis for pricing for a 36-month period that the county described as November 2025 through October 2028.
Energy and purchasing staff said the original terms dated to February 2003 and presented an updated NYMEX-based formula. Purchasing staff explained they received a NYMEX market update and asked the board to “lock in a maximum basis cost of NYMEX LDS minus 0.288 for 36 months,” noting the county will still manage actual usage volumes and a separate usage component.
Commissioners voted to approve the term purchase order after a motion and a second; no recorded opposition was noted. The action establishes a basis component for future natural gas bill calculations and does not, by itself, change how the county apportions actual consumption charges among departments.
Why it matters: locking a basis provides budget stability and price predictability for the county’s natural gas costs over the next three years, but usage charges and market movements will continue to affect bills.
