Board approves $118,898 change order for Onalaska Community Center; project remains under contingency

The Onalaska Board of Public Works and Utilities unanimously approved change order No. 4 for the Onalaska Community Center project on May 6, adding $118,898.20 to previously approved change orders.
Jared Holter summarized 11 items included in the change order, highlighting a $36,002.76 retaining wall and grading behind the softball field, donor signage at about $30,061.70, a fiber‑optic connection to the city fiber network at $160,024.3 (as reported in the packet), and an ADA‑compliant dishwasher for $9,003.34. Holter said the total of approved change orders to date is a little over $143,000 and that the project still has contingency funds remaining.
When asked how the project was funded, Holter said the city bonded $4,000,000 for the center and that donations have exceeded $1,500,000 to date; finance director Sabrina Steger confirmed the contingency can be funded from the donation pool. Mayor Kim moved to approve change order No. 4; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.
Board members had no further questions; the project team and engineering staff will continue to report back as needed.
