The reorganization establishes the leadership and meeting cadence for the year and clarifies staff and public scheduling needs. Commissioners debated whether to move start times half an hour earlier to accommodate parents and evening schedules but, after a straw poll, agreed to adopt 7 p.m. and asked staff to confirm availability of primary staff before final publication.
Nominations were made and a slate was presented for a single vote. The motion to adopt the slate of officers passed by voice vote with no opposition. Commissioners then discussed meeting times; Paul asked for a quick preference poll, saying, “I I wonder if we could just get a sense of who would prefer 7 and who would prefer 06:30, which might help, our decision?” The commission took a straw poll showing a leaning toward 7 p.m., and a motion was made and seconded to set the schedule at 7 p.m. for the year. The motion passed unanimously.
Staff reminded commissioners that the published regular schedule is subject to adjustment for holidays and council scheduling conflicts, and noted that the city typically bypasses the second planning-commission meeting in December. Commissioners asked staff to review holiday conflicts and to confirm whether the primary staff member with childcare responsibilities could attend earlier start times if the commission later decided to change the hour.
No formal changes to the holiday exceptions were made at the meeting. The commission’s chair said staff will publish the adopted schedule and that any future calendar modifications will be posted in advance under the city’s open meeting law requirements.
The chair will run future meetings under the new slate and the commission will proceed with agenda items at the next regular session.
