County Administrator Jeff Aludo told commissioners the project is funded in the 2025 stadium and parking capital budget and is being handled as a cooperative purchase authorized under the Ohio Revised Code.
The county said initial work will prioritize the southeast and northwest escalators, with additional escalators refurbished based on condition and use. "The goal was to get this done in advance, of the season, in advance of events in the stadium this summer," the county administrator said. Commissioners explicitly raised past concerns about projects that were not completed before major events; Commissioner Alicia Reese asked whether the work would be finished before the Cincinnati Music Festival and the county answered that the item was advanced so it would be ready in time.
The contract was approved by the board on a voice vote. The county said the work is intended to avoid escalator outages during high-attendance events and to meet standard capital-maintenance practices for the stadium.
What’s next: County staff will finalize the construction schedule with KONE and report on timelines and interim closures as the work is scheduled to minimize impacts during the festival and other public events.
