The mayor said after review the city reduced its jail appropriation and received updated per-diem figures from the sheriff, which lowered the daily cost from $112 to $98 per inmate in the mayor—s account of the discussion.
"About $1,200,000 was in the original budget. So this takes that down to 600,000," the mayor said, adding staff expect the city—s incarceration-related costs for the year to be under $500,000 given the updated per-diem.
The council filed the mayor—s deappropriation report; no further action was taken at the meeting.
