Findlay City Council on May 7 received updates that the city—s disaster-siren replacement program requires more electrical work and new poles and heads than originally planned, and that city contractors are continuing to fine-tune radio frequencies that activate the sirens from central dispatch.
City engineering and operations staff said early inspections suggested existing wiring could be reused, but contractor input led staff to conclude all wiring should be replaced and new poles and siren heads installed. Staff characterized the additional work as an unanticipated add-on to the project and requested appropriation for the extra funds.
Separately, council authorized purchases related to police central-dispatch radio base stations (Ordinances 2025-049 through 2025-052 and related appropriations). Staff said vendors have been working to calibrate the radio-frequency links between dispatch and sirens; those calibrations are ongoing and, according to staff, do not prevent siren activation when necessary.
Council suspended rules and adopted the dispatch-radio appropriations at the meeting to permit purchase and wiring work while vendors complete final tuning. Staff said the sirens are functioning and vendors continue to refine frequency tuning for reliable activation.
