Findlay approves Sherry Street sanitary-sewer replacement, staff cites linability concerns

Findlay City Council on May 7 approved an ordinance authorizing advertisement for bids and awarding contracts as required for replacement of the sanitary sewer on Sherry Street (Project No. 35652600), and appropriated funds to move the work forward.
City engineering staff told council CCTV inspection showed the existing pipe was severely cracked and not suitable for lining; staff recommended full replacement before the street paving scheduled by the Street Department. The engineer estimated the project cost in the range of $100,000–$110,000 for the short run of pipe involved and said the appropriation request was to authorize advertising so the project could proceed on the paving schedule.
Council suspended the rules to give the ordinance immediate second and third readings and adopted the measure at the meeting. Staff said the work does not present an immediate public-health threat but that replacing the pipe now avoids cutting newly paved streets later.
The city will advertise for bids and return with contract awards once a low, responsive bidder is identified.
