District to host Sleep in Heavenly Peace franchise to provide beds for students

The Niagara Falls City School District said May 8 it is close to signing a partnership agreement to host a Sleep in Heavenly Peace franchise that will build and distribute beds to local children in need.
Superintendent Mark Lohrey said district representatives and community partners visited a Sleep in Heavenly Peace event in Buffalo and observed volunteers building and distributing beds. The district plans to operate the local chapter out of the Boniva Bond family support center; builds would be organized on Saturday mornings and will rely on community and church volunteers. The program will distribute new wooden beds and bedding at no cost to participating families, though Sleep in Heavenly Peace solicits sponsors for materials and bedding.
Lohrey said the district expects deliveries to begin in September and will recruit volunteer groups to build beds, emphasizing it is a volunteer-driven operation rather than district staff building beds. He thanked board members who helped facilitate initial contacts and said the district would provide more formal details when the franchise agreement is finalized.
