Superintendent Rick Robbins presented the Canyons School District’s superintendent’s choice awards to dozens of students and announced a restructuring of the local Parent Teacher Association structure, saying, “the strength and the relationship that our parents and our PTA… in keeping school open and just trying to provide support to our kids was immeasurable.”
The announcement came during an awards ceremony that honored elementary, middle and high school students across the district for academic growth, leadership and resilience. Robbins told the audience that “while there will no longer be a Region 17 PTA, the work of PTA will continue in Canyons.” He and district staff presented recognition to five women who served as Region 17 PTA directors from February 2009 until the reorganization: Shannon Reynolds, Betty Shaw, Tonya Rhodes, Terry Francis and Liz Miles.
